Syrian Rue Seeds – Peganum Harmala, also known as Harmal , is a bright green perennial that is native to the eastern Mediterranean through to eastern India. (Peganum Harmala, Esfand, wild rue, Syrian rue, African rue, or Harmal)Esfand seed has alkaloids like Harmine, Harmaline and Harmalol. Medically the Harmaline gives power to central nervous system.
In the Middle East, particularly Iran, it has been considered sacred since pre-Islamic times and has served a wide variety of purposes. It is believed to purify both the mind and air.Strong anti-bacteria, lactogogue, promote menstruation, carminative, diuretic, anthelmintic of Taenia, beneficial for neurotic disease, epilepsy, palsy, dementia, amnesia, hydropsy and alleviation for sciatic, purifies blood. The esfand’s extract is beneficial for palsy, tremor, and epilepsy, muscles’ jerk, alleviation of backache, sciatic, phlegmatic kidney and womb.
