Acacia Confusa is traditionally associated with Confucius and Taoism, and is known in China as ‘The Thoughtful Tree”, hai hung tou (the red bean from the sea) and hai yuk (sea medicine). It is used in a wide assortment of Chinese medicine. Acacia Confusa is a perennial tree native to South-East Asia. Acacia Confusa was originally native to the northern Philippines Islands, but had spread to Taiwan, China, and other parts of S.E. Asia in the past few millennium. It was considered synonymous with Acacia richii (common in Fiji and other Pacific Islands. Acacia Confusa is also naturalized in Hawaii, where it is known as Formosa Koa.Used in Taiwanese Herbal Medicines for blood disorders as it contains phenolic compounds which act as powerful antioxidants. Online excerpts from Chinese medicine books (precise references are not given) state that the root can be used for detoxification, treating larynx and windpipe inflammation and liver disorders.
